Da- and wo-compounds

If a pronoun is the object of a preposition and refers to a thing, rather than a person, the preposition-pronoun combination often appears as a da-compound or wo-compound.

Er hat einen neuen Computer gekauft. Darauf arbeitet er gern.
Der Computer, worauf er früher arbeitete, ist kaputt.
Wie wollen diese Stadt gut kennenlernen. Also fahren wir mit dem Fahrrad
dadurch.
Die Städte, wodurch wir fahren, sind interessant.

mit dem Sie gesprochen haben, heisst Hans.
He bought a new computer. He likes to work on it.
The computer on which he worked before is broken.
We want to get to know this town well. So we bicycle through it.
The cities through which we are driving are interesting.
