- In questions which ask for a specific piece of information, the word order follows the pattern:
- Question word - verb - subject - predicate components
The question words are:
- was - what
- wie (wieso) - how (how come)
- wo - where
- woher - from where
- wohin - to where
- wann - when
- warum - why
- wer (for nominative reference) - who
- wen (for accusative reference) - whom
- wem (for dative reference) - whom
- wessen (for genitive reference) - whose
- all of the wo-compounds

Woher kommen Sie?
Warum glaubst du das?
